Resolution vs. Goal: What's the BIG Deal?

Action initially "depends upon your capacity to concentrate upon a given desire until that desire becomes a burning obsession." - p. 72, Napoleon Hill, Think and Grow Rich

Resolution and goal defined, so you can be savvy with your friends:
  • Resolution: The state or quality of being resolute; firm determination.
  • Goal: The purpose toward which an endeavor is directed; an objective.

Resolutions are the determination/passion behind the goals that you act on

Here is how you use resolutions to create action:
  1. Pick your top 3 goals for 2011 out of all your passions/dreams.
    • Trips, Career Enhancement, Family time, Health Improvement…
  2. Start with one top goal and write it down in actionable steps.
    • Example: “Steps to redo a room in your house.” Start with a task list, create a budget and supply list, include help you may need to schedule, parts of the job you need to study before starting…
  3. Work your written steps into your day and start checking them off (YES!).
  4. At any point in time, reassess and evaluate how it’s going.
    • Reassess: Be willing to let it go if you have more passion for a different goal.
    • Evaluate: “What if I don't do this? What are the consequences?”
  5. Enjoy the process!  Life is many small steps that build to GREAT events, and you get to decide each and every one.
